Placing a Pet
There are many reasons people feel they need to place their pets in new homes. Some of the most common are
behavioral problems, moving, human health issues (such as allergies), and lifestyle changes. Whatever the reason may be,
there are solutions and alternatives out there that can help make your pet a better member of the family and may allow
you to keep him/her. Please take the time to look over the
information provided on these sites and reconsider
relinquishment as the only solution. It could mean the difference of a long happy life and possible death for your pet if a
new home is not able to be found.

If you must find a new home for your pet:
1.  The first thing to remember is to allow ample time to place him/her. We are very limited on the number of animals we
can take in since we rely on volunteer
foster homes to care for our animals until they are adopted; space is not always
available. If a foster home is unavailable, you have the option to foster your pet yourself until he/she is placed in a
permanent home. However, we cannot guarantee that your pet will be adopted immediately; the time it takes for an
animal to be adopted varies and can range from 2 weeks to 2 months, sometimes longer. If you choose to foster your own
pet, you must abide by all rules that are set for our volunteer foster homes. We are unable to accept any cats into our
program at this time. We are sorry, but we cannot make any exceptions.

2.  All animals must pass an evaluation before being accepted into the program. Temperament and health are evaluated to
make sure the animal is adoptable. Evaluations are done by appointment only. Sorry, but we are unable to take in
fence-jumpers, escape artists, wild or aggressive animals of any kind, or strays. We are not an animal control agency and
do not have a shelter. If you have found a stray you need to contact animal control for your area.

3.  We charge a minimum intake fee of $25 for any individual animal. This intake fee helps us care for your pet during its
time with us (spay or neuter, shots, medical care if needed, food, etc.) We have a "litter fee" for puppies and kittens.
This "litter fee" is for litters of 3 or more. Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks old before we are able to
take them into the program. Intake fees are fully discussed when setting an evaluation appointment.

4.  If we are unable to take your pet into our adoption program, we can post a private adoption ad on Petfinder.com free
of charge, but donations are always accepted. You may use the form below to send information about your pet for a
listing on Petfinder. Please give as much information as possible, be honest about temperament, and we recommend you
charge an adoption fee. This will help your pet find the right home. Pictures of your pet (up to 3) must be emailed
separately to
gina@palhumanesociety.org. Please be sure to put your name or your pet's name in the subject line when
emailing pictures.
