Do you have a case of Puppy Love?
Do you have room in your Heart & Home to
help a puppy become an assistance dog?
If the answer is “YES”,
you may want to become a
PUPPY RAISER for
PAL Humane Society’s
Ability Dog Program.
What are the responsibilities of a Puppy Raiser?
Attend 2 obedience courses, basic and advanced.
Socialize the puppy 3-4 times a week
Provide lots of Love
What if I already have a dog?
This can be a good thing, the puppy needs to be
comfortable with other dogs.
What if I work full time?
Some employers allow he pup to accompany you to
work occasionally.  You can also enlist the help of
family members or friends to visit the puppy during
your workday for the first month or so.
Who is responsible for veterinary costs, food, etc.?
The puppy raiser is responsible for routine costs, like
food and treats.  We are a 501 (c) 3 organization, all
expenses incurred for puppy raising are tax deductible.
We offer in house training classes at no charge.  All
vet costs are covered by PAL Vets including shots,
spay/neuter etc.
How long will I have the puppy?
The average commitment is 12-18 months.
We will also have adult rescued dogs that have
shown potential to become service dogs.  These
dogs may require less time in the raisers home.
Isn’t  it hard to give the dog up?
Yes, it can be very difficult, but it helps to remember
that there are people hoping and dreaming of the day
when a PAL pup will become their Assistance Dog.
Knowing that you helped to change someone’s life for
the better makes it a little easier.
This is a wonderful opportunity to teach kids about
giving to others and letting go!
