B.A.R.K Program Graduates it's first 2 dogs! 7/22/09 Today 7 kids from High Desert Juvenile Detention Center joined PAL Staff and correctional officers at a party to celebrate the graduation of 2 dogs from the B.A.R.K. program. In just 4 weeks, the kids in the dog training program learned to train basic obedience behaviors like sit, stay, down, come, wait & leave it. The dogs in training; Abner (Chiwawa mix) & Apache (Shepherd mix) were joined by their 4 legged friends, Service dog in training; Harrison, new puppy Service dog in training; Falcon & Service dog; Kaya The kids in this program must be on their best behavior to attend the classes. They learn real life skills like patience, problem solving, understanding & love as well as humane treatment of animals. But more than the skills the kids obtain, we believe this program gives them a reason to make good choices, and maybe when they leave the detention center, they will continue to make good choices because they realize that good things come to you when you do the right thing. We congratulate the kids in the program and they will take with them our wishes for a bright future! As for the dogs... Apache & Abner have new "forever homes". |
