PAL Humane Society believes that education of both adults and children is one of the
answers to pet overpopulation
. Our programs are designed to teach school age children
the importance of being a responsible pet owner and how to protect themselves if
approached on the streets by a stray dog. The programs are designed for assemblies,
or groups such as classrooms, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and other youth groups. PAL
also has a program designed for adults, presenting this at our local Chamber of
Commerce's, Rotaries, Kiwanis, and church groups.

PAL also focuses on educating all current and potential pet owners on the importance
of responsible pet ownership. Our Adoption and Cruelty Investigations programs along
with our Education program help us to fulfill our mission in making the world a better
and safer place for all animals. With your help we can make a difference!
EXPLORER POST #156
Beginning in September, PAL will once again start their Explorer Post for Animal
Welfare Careers
. An Explorer Post is open to both boys and girls, 15-20 years of age or
14 and in the 9th grade. PAL counselors have planned field trips, speakers, and hands on
learning for the Explorer meetings. The Explorers run their own club, have uniforms, and
do fund raising to help with costs and to also help PAL with their programs.

We need adults to help with this Program! Adult advisors are needed to help us with
the set up and running of the post. To qualify to work with the kids, adults will need to
be fingerprinted and background checked, have a good driving record, and of course enjoy
working with children and young adults.

Program, please contact

KIND News
Thanks to a grant from NAHEE (National Association for Humane and Environmental
Education), a division of the Humane Society of the United States, PAL was able to place
KIND news into 205 elementary classrooms during the 2006/2007 school year. During
the 2007/2008 school year, we increased our program and were able to reach 308
classrooms. Our goal is to eventually be in all the Elementary school in the High Desert.

KIND News is a newspaper that teaches kids about the importance of being kind to one
another, animals and the environment, by using puzzles, hands-on projects and articles.
KIND News classrooms receive 32 copies of nine issues, as well as a teaching guide for
each month of the school year. Adopted teachers also receive a gift issue of
KIND
Teacher magazine, containing reproducible worksheets,
KIND ID cards for students,
KIND calendar announcements, and a colorful classroom poster.

Thanks to several local businesses
and individuals that support our Humane Education
Program, PAL will be able to put
KIND News into the same classrooms during the
2008/2009 school year. Approximately 7,173 children will receive this monthly newspaper
from NAHEE as a means to help young children understand the value of kindness towards
one another, animals, and the environment.

PAL also goes into the classrooms for a hands on educational experience for the children.
We do three interactive workshops per class that include a slide presentation, hands on
with a therapy dog, and a project for the children to complete.

To Adopt-a-Teacher for the entire 2008/2009 school year,
it only costs $30!
That $30 provides 32 copies of nine issues of
KIND News from
September through May.
